Reflections, What’s Next and Thank You.
Angel Food Ministries decision to cease operations, proves once again that we are all vulnerable to hardship. Ironically, it is from hardship that AFM first began. In a spirit of love, community and most importantly, Christ, we’ve had the great honor of serving you over the last few years. And, while this may spell the end of Angel Food Ministries nationally, locally we continue to seek opportunities to serve you.
Many have asked us what’s next. Truthfully, we don’t know. But He does know what’s in store. We continue to pray and exercise patience so we can move forward donning the full armor of God to help make our community a better place while ministering to our friends, our neighbors… our family. Watch this website and/or follow us on Facebook for occasional updates as we move forward. Finally, please continue to pray for us and our community.
If you wish to get involved and join our great mission, please join us at St. Andrew on Sunday mornings, beginning at 9 for worship. Together, with the helping hand of Christ, we’ll rise above all to the glory of Christ.
Angel Food Ministries Ceases Operations
In an official statement from Angel Food Ministries…
Angel Food Ministries has considered many options regarding our future. At this time we regret to inform you that we have not found a solution that will allow Angel Food Ministries to continue to distribute food on a monthly basis and have decided to cease operations. We realize the pressure that this places on our host sites, community food banks and customers.
However, there is a group of former employees and food vendors that are working to find a better way of serving those who have come to depend on Angel Food.
Unfortunately many if not all other food ministries have gone out of business in recent years. Angel Food has not been immune from the same economic and market conditions that led to the loss of other food ministries. It’s important to note that in the past we never relied on donations; less than 1% of annual revenues have come from donations. We are grateful that we have been able to help tens of millions of customers save hundreds of millions of dollars in food costs. We also are grateful to have been able to return about $24 million to our church host sites and other partner organizations.
With the help of our volunteer staff 98 percent of the thousands of customers who placed an order for September have already received a full refund. We continue to work with the USDA to credit the remaining 59 customers who used their SNAP benefits to place a September order. Federal regulations prohibit us from simply sending them a check for a full refund. The USDA/SNAP officials have been very helpful in seeing to it that these refunds are taking place in an orderly fashion. Those who placed orders through their local host sites will need to contact that site directly for a full refund.
We are comforted by the thousands of comments we have received expressing support for Angel Food Ministries and the great need to continue helping those in need. We at Angel Food Ministries are truly heartbroken to have to cease operations but it has not compromised our faith in God or our commitment to helping those in need.
Please check this website often for the latest information. Thank you for your prayers, faithfulness and your commitment to Angel Food Ministries over these past 17 years.
Angel Food Ministries Temporarily Suspends Orders
It’s with great disappointment we must inform you that Angel Food Ministries will not be hosting a September distribution. All online orders received to date are being processed by AFM for immediate and full refund. Any offline orders that have already been taken will be refunded by St. Andrew EPC.
Angel Food Ministries intends to continue their ministry and are not considering ceasing operations. Rather, they are seeking ways to strategically reorganize and re-emerge with an improved model that is more sustainable given our current economic climate.
Media inquiries should be directed to 770-266-2017.
On a personal note, words cannot express our appreciation for allowing us to serve you. As you can imagine, this has left us with heavy hearts and much sadness. Please continue to watch this blog and follow us on Facebook so we can keep you update on Angel Food Ministries progress and whatever course of action God leads our local ministry now and in the future.
Blessings

Get to Know Angel Food Ministries: How We Help
We help those in need, anyone who’s hungry and our partner church host sites. In addition to providing good food at great prices to anyone who wants it, we bring hundreds of thousands to their churches every month. We also give back to our host sites and to date, have returned nearly $24 million to those churches that partner with us.
In DeKalb County, 100% of those funds that are returned go into a benevolence fund that is used to provide food for those in extreme need and/or to introduce Angel Food Ministries to key areas.
Get to Know Angel Food Ministries: Cost Savings
Every month, we compare our prices with major retail and discount grocery stores across the country. Our food packages are typically priced 30 to 50 percent less than these retail grocery stores.
